Creating Meaningful Moments Through Mobii’s Life Stories Activities
At Southborough Nursing Home, part of the Aria Care Group, our team at OM Interactive recently returned to deliver a refresher training session for staff using the Mobii Interactive Projector. The visit focused on reintroducing staff to the powerful range of sensory activities available through Mobii, including how to create personalised life story sessions tailored to each resident’s memories, identity, and family history.
It was a deeply moving day filled with 1-to-1 interactions, family participation, and joyful group engagement, all made possible by the unique flexibility of the Mobii system.
Life Story Activities That Spark Recognition and Joy
One of the most memorable parts of the day was a life story session with resident Lesley, who was joined by her husband and son. Using personalised content created on the Mobii, we were able to show her wedding photos and other significant memories, creating a heartfelt and emotional shared experience. These tailored sessions are designed to help families and carers connect with loved ones living with dementia in a way that’s engaging, interactive, and deeply meaningful.
1-to-1 Sessions with Residents and Activity Leads
In collaboration with Shobha, the home’s dedicated Activity Coordinator, our team facilitated several 1-to-1 life story and sensory sessions:
- Ruth had a personal session alongside Shobha, creating space for gentle interaction and reminiscence.
- Lillian enjoyed multiple moments of connection — one with Shobha, one with our product support specialist Ian, and another alongside her close friend Barbara.
- Barbara also took part in a one-to-one with Shobha, where she was able to revisit personal photos and memories from her past. The Mobii’s calming, interactive visuals supported a deeply reflective life story session, fostering moments of recognition and emotional connection.
Each session was thoughtfully guided and showcased how personalised content can bring comfort, familiarity, and joy to individuals at all stages of dementia.
Group Engagement Around the Table
Later in the day, residents gathered for a group activity using the Mobii projected onto a table, offering shared experiences that encouraged both social interaction and cognitive stimulation. Residents took part in:
- The Xylophone Activity – creating music together through interaction.
- The Multi-layer Wipe Activity – designed for tactile satisfaction and discovery.
- The Colour-in Dogs Activity – promoting creativity and gentle hand movement.
- Additional sensory favourites, including the calming Coral Reef activity and more, were also explored throughout the day.
These activities help increase engagement, reduce anxiety, and stimulate movement and conversation in a fun, non-pressured environment.
A Day to Remember
Our visit wasn’t just a refresher – it was a reminder of how the Mobii, when used thoughtfully and personally, can bring families closer, spark memories, and support wellbeing in dementia care.
