The sensory technology company, OM Interactive, has won the Outstanding Dementia Product category in the 9th National Dementia Care Awards 2018.

Winners of the National Dementia Care Awards were presented with their trophies by host MP Hazel Blears at the high-profile Gala Night held on Thursday, 8th November at the Hilton Brighton Metropole attended by over 450 guests.

About the Awards:

The National Dementia Care Awards is an annual event organised by The Journal of Dementia Care, a multidisciplinary journal for all professional staff working with people with dementia, in hospitals, nursing and residential care homes, day units and the community. The awards were created to recognise the very best people in the dementia care sector, whose exceptional work and contributions make better, person-centred care a reality. There were 16 categories to enter overall and there were four or five finalists in each category with two independent judges. Embracing Interactive Technology at Andrew Smith House

Recently Stocks Hall Andrew Smith House welcomed OM Interactive who came to demonstrate their motion-activated projection system.

The ground-breaking Mobii system is the first truly mobile motion-activated table-projection system that can easily be moved to those who need it. It can be adjusted to a different height/size surface at the touch of a button making it an invaluable flexible intervention in all care settings.

Here’s Leslie Ann, who lives at Andrew Smith House, photographed here with her husband Barney using the OM Interactive table together.  They thoroughly enjoyed the demonstration, discovering meaningful activities to enjoy together.  Leslie Ann was fascinated with the coral reef and took on the challenge of the cake making exercise.

Magic table installed at The Green is a great success

“We are delighted that our residents at The Green are already gaining so much from this wonderful technology,” said Anne Thomas, Chief Executive.

The Green is believed to be the first care home in Cornwall to take delivery of the Mobii magic table projection system, which is designed to stimulate movement, communication and mental activity.

The motion-activated magic table projection system can project on to tables, beds and floors, using motion sensors to turn them into interactive surfaces controlled by touching, swiping and splatting. With more than 300 different apps, quizzes and activities, there is plenty to help keep residents engaged and entertained, including music, games and painting.

Carey Lodge invites the Mayor to sample new interactive technology

The Mayor of Leighton-Linslade, Cllr Palmer, joined residents at Carey Lodge, who showcased their new OMI Mobii magic surface interactive projector, which has proven benefits to support well-being.

The OMI was funded by donations from Tesco Bags of Help, Twyford Art Group and Cllr Netta Glover from Bucks County Council, who gave a contribution from the Community Leaders’ Fund. Attendees witnessed the impact first-hand of the award-winning device, which encourages engagement, use of motor skills, social interaction and coordination.

The mobile projection technology inspires group participation through games as well as the enjoyment of therapeutic visual effects, which can be particularly helpful for those living with dementia. Resident Dot Potter’s well-being improved considerably when she participated in the session as she was able to concentrate for a longer period of time and show enjoyment from interaction with her fellow residents.

When resident, Anne Geering, takes part in game play she is more able to articulate how she feels and clearly enjoys the sense of community that arises from coming together with others.

Our team at Carey Lodge use the Bradford Well-being Profile tool to demonstrate the impact of regular use of the OMI, alongside other activities, on residents’ wellbeing.
